Acne Spot Treatment?

Answer:

Before applying your makeup, try one of these tricks from Dr. Loretta Ciraldo. Ice the spot for 5 to 10 minutes to decrease swelling and redness. Then, apply an acne treatment like our Acne Spot Treatment. Another option? Cover the blemish with a hydrocortisone cream, like Cortaid Maximum Strength Cream, $8, drugstores. This should significantly reduce the swelling, “just like it would if the dermatologist gave you a shot of cortisone in the pimple,” Dr. Ciraldo explains. If you’re treating the zit before bed, slap a Band-Aid on to keep the cream in place!

Our formulation uses the maximum allowable strength of Salicylic Acid (2%) for at-home cleansers. Salicylic Acid is a "beta-hydroxy acid" that works in a similar way to Glycolic Acid by ungluing the dead cells in the outer layer of the skin resulting in an exfoliation. However, Salicylic Acid penetrates deeper and cleanses the pores better than Glycolic Acid. This is key for those with acne-prone skin, as we know that acne starts with a clogged pore. This gentle cleanser utilizes non-comedogenic foaming ingredients to help reduce acne breakouts.

Salicylic Acid
The first event in all acne lesions is the induction of the follicular plug which clogs the pore and can induce inflammation and an acne breakout. This beta-hydroxy acid gets into pores to dissolve the dead cell plug that causes the acne spot.

Camphor
