What is the Purpose of a Toner?
Toners clean any residue left from your cleansers, and most importantly, thoroughly clean pores, removing as
much pore debris as possible. (They can’t shrink pores, no matter the claims you may see.) Otherwise, any
remaining pore debris will be pushed deeper into the pores as you apply a serum or moisturizer on top, possibly
creating a congested skin condition.
If the pore is allowed to dry out, then it can plug the pore, trapping the new oil underneath and becoming
impacted and difficult to remove. The result will be blackheads and even blemishes. When used correctly, a
toner leaves your skin impeccably clean, hydrated and prepared to accept additional moisture and correcting
ingredients.
Toners often perform other extremely important steps. They may add water or hydration, assist absorption of
other skin care products, exfoliate, and provide nourishment to the skin. Our toner is also a mild exfoliant.
However, many people consider toners an optional step.

Note: I use a toner as I don’t exfoliate every day. I find exfoliation three to four times a week is sufficient
for my skin. I like to ensure that all cleanser and pore debris is removed (it’s surprising what can be left
after cleansing!). The toner leaves my skin slightly damp so that the serums and/or moisturizers glide on easily.
On the other hand, Dr. Loretta does not use a toner but exfoliates and uses the Oxygen Lift mask daily.
